After having bought the Magirus nine years ago, we finally took it down to the Sahara desert. This is journey we bought the Magirus for in the first place.
Andrew, Christian an I started our Trip to Tunisia on a ferry which left Geneva.
The car park in front of the ferry was pretty crowded.
Take a closer look on the things the people take down to Tunisia on their cars : Fridges, carpets,...
A view of the very first part of the coast of Tunisia ( on the right ).
And a closer look at Tunisia, Christian & Andrew, Patrick & Andrew.
About 2 hours drive south of Tunis is Hammamet. That was our first campingsite. Closeby is Hammam-Jedi, where we went to take a bath in the well known hammam there. A very interesting experience.
The next day we drove all the way down to Douz. Here you see us letting some air out of our tyres at the edge of the Sahara desert.
And of course, we had to test the durabilty and sand-driving qualities of our Magirus to the limit. It took about thirty minutes of combined digging to get it out of the sand again. Here is a little Magirus movie ( 1.2 MBytes Quicktime ) to show you the Magirus in action.
Two days later we started our trip from Douz to Ksar Ghilane right through the Sahara desert.
For documentation purposes only - that's the spot where we filled the sand in bottles.
Our first campsite.
More sand impressions.
Our second campsite.

As you can see, the area consists of a plane of hard sand with light sand blown to dunes.
Christian as Tuarek.

After the third night we decided to take the heavily used track.
Campsite romantic. Venus and once more Orion.
Before we went back to Germany we washed the cars and stayed once more in the campsite in Hammamet.
